Our Story: From Sean’s Journey to a Movement of Hope
In 2010, Linet Atieno and Dauglas Otieno welcomed their son, Sean Douglas, into the world. Like many parents, they dreamed of a bright and boundless future for their child. But as Sean grew, they began to notice differences in his development—differences that would eventually lead to a diagnosis of autism.

The journey that followed was filled with challenges. Navigating healthcare systems, finding inclusive education, and supporting Sean’s social development often felt overwhelming. There were moments of uncertainty, isolation, and fear. Sean was non-verbal for many years, and accessing the right support was a constant struggle.
But Linet and Dauglas never gave up.
Through unwavering love, advocacy, and determination, they sought out therapies, embraced inclusive education, and built a nurturing environment where Sean could thrive. Today, Sean is a vibrant teenager attending an integrated school in Nairobi. He communicates confidently, excels in IT, and has a passion for music, football, and cooking. He has not only found his voice—he has become a beacon of inspiration in his community.
Sean’s transformation is a testament to what is possible when autistic children are given the support, understanding, and opportunities they deserve.
Motivated by their son’s journey and the many families still searching for hope, Linet and Dauglas founded Autism Helping Hands Foundation. Their mission is simple but powerful: to walk alongside other families, to break down barriers, and to ensure that no child is left behind because of autism.
As a family, they believe that every autistic child has a future worth fighting for. Through this foundation, they hope to inspire others to embrace their children’s uniqueness, to believe in their potential, and to know that with love and support, the future is indeed bright.
